Day 20- Self Love- Showing up for Yourself

I don’t even know if I should be counting days at this point since I haven’t been posting every day, but I think I put these days up there to remind myself of what I was supposed to be doing and to get back to this place of keeping my word to myself. Why is that so challenging?

I am very good for keeping my word to someone else I care about. I guarantee it at times and make sure I show up in the best way no matter the obstacle. That is the same energy I need to keep with myself. SHOW UP FOR YOU! But also showing up for you means you are more importantly showing up for God. Matthew 22:39 says love your neighbor as you love yourself. It’s the 2nd greatest commandment so I think knowing how to love yourself is PRETTY important. I used to just really skip over that as you love yourself part. I think we all do.

What does it look like to love yourself?

I had to go on google and look up scriptures for self-love and two of them stood out to me. The first on was Proverbs 19:8 says “To acquire wisdom is to love yourself, people who cherish understanding will prosper. NKJV says “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.” What does this say to me? That I should always remain in the place of seek before my Father. Wisdom comes from him, and his word and he has set it up for us to prosper! He has the insight that we need. Why because he is our creator. He is the manufacture. He wrote the blueprint and is not setting us up to fail. In fact, his word says that he has plans to prosper us. So why wouldn’t we seek him! His arms are open.

But also, educate yourselves. We have access to too much information for us to not constantly be in a place of growth. Me loving on myself means I am a continual student, and I am going to consume knowledge to become the best version of me. Whatever God has purpose you to do. You should be getting information so you can be the expert in that area and your secret weapon is always going to be the wisdom of God. Because God’s wisdom will have you being the innovator in the industry. Thinking outside the box because of God given instructions. God is faithful and one step with him could be 10,000 steps for someone else.

The other scripture was, Ephesians 5:29 says No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it. Just as Christ cares for the church. In context this is talking about how a husband is to love his wife. However, I believe loving yourself so that you can love your neighbor properly requires you to experience God’s love.

He sent his son to die for us. He sacrificed for us, and the bible says that he CARES for us. In verse 27 it says, “All that he does in us is designed to make us a mature”. Which means God loves us so much that he wouldn’t dare leave us the same. He wants us to mature and grow to our fullest potential. He calls us his masterpiece, his child, his beloved. And it is hard I know at times to receive love from someone you can’t see when they people you do see can treat you so cold, but his love is everlasting. His love is full, His love for you is unconditional, never changing and never ending and all you have to do is receive. But it will absolutely take faith to reveal and receive something you cannot see.

Give God’s love a try and I promise you it will change your life.

Affirmation: The love of God transforms me into the best version of myself and because I have experienced his love. I am more than equipped to show the love of God to others.

Until next time!

Love always,
